Living in the Shadow

Putting on my moisturizer with SPF this morning (and the three other dang face creams that go with it) I asked myself:

Why am I doing this, anyway?

Because truthfully, most days this time of year the sunlight never actually hits my face….

  1. As I got dressed to go out to dinner last night around 6 p.m. (definitely pitch dark at that point), I unconsciously reached for my sunscreen. Some habits are hard to break but I suppose this is a good habit. I wasn’t going to any moon burn either.

  2. Ha. Maybe to block out any stray bits of that darned vitamin D. 😉
I seem to be allergic to added sunblock. (I found a mineral makeup/foundation that has SPF15 just from the minerals, not added). So it’s amazing how hard it is to find a moisturizer that does not have sunblock.
With the ever shorter days… here’s to a little sunshine. Hugs!

  3. THREE other creams? My regime is only moisturiser. I follow the KISS principle. 🙂
    Another nice photo.
Here in New Zealand we need to wear SPF moisturiser in late spring/summer/early autumn; some people all year round, depending on their likelihood of being outside. Strong sunlight down this way. 🙂 In winter my skin fades to a lighter shade of pale but about now I diligently put it on in the mornings. Going into summer here. Do I remember to put more on later in the day. Not usually.
We have “burn time” predictions during the weather forecasts in summer. Usually 15-20 minutes is all you need to burn. I tend to walk in the shade and sit in the shade outside. I even cross the street to walk in the shade. I enjoy being outside but I cover up. I love wearing hats in summer. 🙂
We have the expression “slip slop slap.” (Slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen and slap on a hat.) I have always remembered it wrong – my version has been “slip slap slop.”

  6. This morning my wife was applying eyeliner.

    Me: What is that for?
My wife: It is to fill in areas
Me: Why would you not just leave it?
My wife: Eww…what is this, the early 2000s?
Me: (I have no idea what that even means. Walks away laughing). LoL.

  7. I really, really hate wearing sunscreen. It makes me feel all dried out and greasy and icky. So I just don’t wear it unless I know for a fact that I’ll be out in the sun for a while. I just stick to the shade and cover up and wear a hat.

That being said, Sydney summers are getting so freaking intense these days! My policy may have to change soon…
