Saturday Short

“There is a certain relief in change, even though it be from bad to worse! As I have often found in traveling in a stagecoach, that it is often a comfort to shift one’s position, and be bruised in a new place.” – Washington Irving

  1. I think that’s also called going from the frying pan into the fire. Ha! As odd as this is we require the stimulation of change. Much as many fundamental equations that describe our universe (for instance F= ma where “a” is the change in velocity or Δv) are a function of change or Δ, so too the human experience is also fundamentally a Δ. When I trucked I ran wild for exactly that reason (running wild means taking the next load available regardless of where it is going) – i was fascinated by going places i had never been, regardless of the difficulty – in fact i welcomed difficulty.as a challenge. Oddly enough thus endeared me to the dispatchers and i got all the weird and special loads This turned .out to be financially rewarding as well. 😀

    Cool pst Victo.

      • Modern long-haul truck are the epitome of comfort and convenience. You would likely be restless wondering why you have all this comfort. Ha! It is very cool and when you are easy with yourself it is very Zen-like. The passing and constantly changing scenery feels like it is flipping open memory drawers in your brain constantly- I know some really smart people who were professionals and started a second career,. that truck just for that feeling of peace and continual stimulation. You’d likely be good at it Victo as you seem to be somewhat introspective. You have to be pretty comfortable with yourself to spend months or years alone.

  2. Those last words are the clincher, “…and be bruised in a new place.” – Washington Irving.”
A change is as good as a rest, even if it’s pain in a different place or of a different kind? I can see a little relief, like a breather from the same old, same old to a different kind. 😀

  3. If you don’t make a move the the bruises become bed sores. But there is a time in everyone’s life when you have to accept being locked in by circumstance and family and just ride out the bumps and pot holes.
But dreams can be a bit debilitating as well
