Hotdog octopus
My kids don’t get hotdogs very often but when they do they think it tastes like octopus.

Not sure why they would think that…

(I first did a version of this post last year. It still makes me giggle every time I see this photo. Sometimes you have to choose between healthy and survival. Choosing survival is OK.)

  1. The marvelous phantasy of kids! How many times I’ve wished we adultds would have preserved a bit more of it!…And yes, maybe your kids should try more often real Octopus, ist a wonderful dish, but gosh, a mother making sausage-tentacles is so much cooler!

  2. I love it! My crazy mum (not that I casting aspersions…) used to make amazing ‘person’ salads out of bits of vegetables and cheese just to make me eat them. The skirt was made of processed cheese. Happy memories.

  3. Why the shame ??? I know, I’ve seen the video, I know what’s in there. But still, it’s something I crave now and again. If you’ve never had a real Coney Island dog…Steamed bun, grilled dog, finely ground meat topping, with mustard and onions ground so small…the consistency of applesauce. Melt in your mouth goodness. (It’s a Greek thing, from immigrants in Detroit, Mi., originally ). ☺☺☺

  4. LOVE the picture!!

I still won’t eat one though. I haven’t been able to eat a hot dog since I was pregnant with my first son over 30 years ago. I just can’t get past the smell. Needless to say, my kids didn’t eat hot dogs at home :/

  5. Love the idea on the hot dogs. My oldest son would only eat hot dogs and chicken noodle soup from a can for almost a year. The doctor told me not to worry as long as he is getting his vitamins and drinking milk. As he got older he seemed to love MacDonalds hamburger. I then learned to cut up green beans and carrots and other vege’s and add them to the burger. He was about four when he spent his first sleepover at my sister’s home. I told her if she makes burgers and veg. what to do otherwise he would not eat the veg. To make a long story short she forgot and just gave him a burger and of course he did not eat the veg. She told me she asked him how he liked the burger and he said; “it was ok, but how come it isn’t green?” That’s when she remembered. He is now 44 eats anything you put in front of him and has four children of his own. We all still get a great laugh about that at family gatherings.
